St. John came to visit us!

Guten Morgen, Yesterday St. John’s came to our school to teach us stuffs like the doctors abc, if you don’t know what the doctors abc is, don’t worry, I’m here to tell you everything. First of is the doctors abc;

Danger

Response

Send help

Airway

Breathing

Cpr

That is the doctors abc, so when you see someones unconscious do these steps;

look at your surroundings before running to the patient.

shout their name, if they don’t wake up rub their collarbone.

If they don’t wake up after all these, call 111.

while waiting for the medics, tilt their chin up to make it easier to breath.

Next is Rice, I know what your thinking, what does rice have to do with this. well, this is what Rice means;

Rest

Ice

Compresion

Elevate

If you have sprained your hand or leg, here’s what to do.

rest you arm\leg, don’t let it move that much.

put an ice pack or frozen peas on the arm/leg, but cover the ice pack with tissue or a piece of cloth.

after  get a gauze pad and wrap it around the arm/leg with a bandage, make it tight, but not too tight.

Then grab a pillow and rest your arm/leg on it.

Now, this is the last medical Acronym, “fast”;

Face

Arm

Speech

Take action

If anyone shows these signs they might have a stroke. How to detect;

Ask them to smile, if their smile is a bit droopy, they might have a stroke.

Tell them to lift both their arms, if they struggle to lift their arm\arms, they might have a stroke.

If they pronounce a word correctly but struggle to speak after, they might have a stroke.

And last but not least, if anyone shows these signs, call 111.

That’s all! Gut bai!

Learning about Scratch

Buen dia, On Wednesday we went on a zoom call with Theo and Akem with some other classes. Theo and Akem were the ones who were gonna explain to us how to use scratch.

Scratch is an app where we can play games made by other students, and we can also make our own animations.

While we were calling alot of us were stuck because of the internet, but soon we caught up.

That’s all, thank you for reading.

My Reading activities

Magandang umaga, last week we were split into 7 groups, and those 7 groups will read different types of chapter books, i’m in group 5 and we are currently reading the book ‘Millions” by Frank Cottrell Boyce, it’s about two brothers who received a bag stuffed with money, they can buy anything they want…Except for the one they really need.

We are currently on chapter 7 on “Millions” and we were given an activity to draw a hermitage beside a train track because the main character likes saints.

We were also given a reading tracking list and i did 4 tasks already, my favorite activity was making a new cover for “Millions.”

That’s all for today, have a great day!

Can you make fake snow?

Kia Ora! last week we did an experiment on Friday, we had to make fake snow with the following materials.
>conditioner
>baking soda

Then we were divided into groups, I was with KImberlee, Hayley and Ella. After that we went outside so when we make the fake snow, the classroom wouldn’t be dirty.

Eventually, we were given a cup, bowl, a bigger bowl, and a spoon.

here are the instructions that were given to us:

> grab a cup and put some conditioner in, if you want a big snow then put lots of conditioner, and if you want a small snow, add small conditioner.

> then add some baking soda to the cup filled with conditioner.

> then use the spoon as a whisker, and mix!

> if your snow looks a bit slimy add more baking soda.

My snow didn’t really look like snow but it looked and felt like clay.

That’s all! have a great day!

My famous New Zealand Person

Kia ora, this term has been pretty busy, we have done lots of learning. But this topic is the most exciting of them all.

Lately we have been learning about famous New Zealanders. The first instructions given to us was that we had two days to pick our famous person, but they had to be New Zealanders because that was the topic we were learning about. I chose Joan Wiffen.

Joan Wiffen is a famous New Zealand palaeontologist, she found her first dinosaur fossil in Mangahouanga. I chose her because I find dinosaurs quite fascinating.

After we chose our our person, we had to make a report about them, research about them and place it on a google doc in our Chromebooks. Then, using that report we had to make a Google vid. We had to read the report about our famous person and video ourselves.

Lastly we had to make a statue of our famous person with wire, and after sculpting the wire to a body, we covered the body with tin foil then we hot glued the body to a piece of wood.

Thank you for reading 😁

Have a great day!

life changer

Kia ora, last week we had two people visiting our school campus, their names were Seb and Phoebe. They were teaching us about emotions and all sorts of stuff that would be important in life.

All of us had to go to akura to do life changer, which is the thing we do to learn about emotions and understanding emotions, but that isn’t all. We learned all sorts of stuff. Like our strengths, the difference between good friends and bad friends, and respecting my boundaries and other people’s boundaries too.

Phoebe and Seb let us do mini games to help us understand better about the subject. Like heads up thumbs down but instead of just picking someone random, a person will tell the taggers a value/strength and the taggers have to pick someone who shows or has that value/strength that the person told them. and the subject we were learning was our strengths.

In my opinion I really liked life changer because it made me learn how to speak my mind.

what have you been doing at your school? That will be all. Thank you for reading

Sir Edmund Hillary facts

Kia Ora, We have been doing lots of activities lately but i’m mostly gonna talk about reading. We have been reading about Sir Edmund Hillary, If you don’t know who that is, than it’s ok! because I’m here to tell you all about him.

Sir Edmund Hillary was born in Auckland, New Zealand. He was the first New Zealander  to climb Mount. Everest, that is mighty impressive! But he didn’t do it all alone did he? He had a friend beside him, “Tenzing Norgay.’

Sir Edmund Hillary also served in the royal New Zealand Air Force as a navigator during world war ll, he didn’t just climb Mount. Everest! he also served for his country!

This one blew my mind! he built 20 schools in total, Sir Edmund Hillary has done a lot!

This is Sir Edmund Hillary, he died at the age of 88.

I think Sir Edmund Hillary has done a great job, now it’s time for him to rest.

How I did my Pukeko art

Kia ora, This is the last day of term 1. We have been up to a lot of work lately but this one is my favourite as it includes painting, sketching, and cutting.

This is how I did it:

First we drew spirals on an A3 piece of paper for the water, we drew lots of spirals! Then we painted the spirals inside lines with some dark blue and light blue.

Then we drew some funny shaped circles at the bottom of the paper for the rocks. Then we painted the rocks with yellow, grey, and some red.

After painting the base of the paper we then sketch a harakeke, for those who don’t know what that is, it’s a flax that can be used for weaving. Then we painted the harakeke. After it dries I traced it with a black vivid.

Now this is the tricky part, as we have to draw a pukeko. We drew the base of the pukeko with shapes then we added some details after. And again we painted it.

And now is the grand finale. Cutting the harakeke and pukeko. And sticking everything into the A3 paper.

That’s all.

Have you done any art at school?

Welcome back to my blog!

Kia ora welcome back to my blog.

This year we did swimming sports, it was last Friday, and i’m gonna tell you about it.

When we arrived we sat in our house colour, then the zones swimmers went in first so they can get ready for tomorrow for zones. then Ms.Mclaughlin would call out if we want to do free style, back stroke and other types of swimming, then we had free swim. And we did this thing called a whirl pool, its where we get into a circle in the pool and we go round and round, and it makes this little tornado.

How about you? what have you been doing in school?
